Grazing from the Ground Up

  • Private Property 100 Whitakers Road (map)

This workshop is free for CQSHS members only. Please ensure your membership is current before attending. To learn more about joining CQSHS, please see MEMBERSHIP

Whether you are new to grazing or an experienced grazier looking to fine tune your management, this workshop delves into practical tools and strategies to improve soil health while optimising the potential of your farm, even if you are also working full-time.

Topics explored include:

  • Understanding pasture growth and the connection between grazing & soil health

  • Clarifying your vision & goals, and balancing farm life with off-farm commitments

  • Setting up your property in a cost effective way, and to be productive at any size

  • Calculating how many head you can run, and when to graze or rest your pasture

  • Managing grazing during wet and dry seasons, working with less desirable plants

  • Learning simple ways to measure your soil health and indicators of improvement

Refreshments will be available for those who would like to stay afterwards to continue connecting and sharing experiences.

Katie and Andrew Zerner from Knowledge to Practice are regenerative graziers who are passionate about the health of their land, soils and business, and how that relates to human health, connection and landscape. They both have a wealth of knowledge from a lifetime of working with organisations and families across rural, regional and remote Australia in the areas of grazing, farming and people. Together they run courses designed to empower people to take action - providing practical demonstrations, support, accountability, and developing people’s confidence to pursue their goals.

This project has been funded by the Integrated Engagement and Capacity Building project through the Queensland Government’s Queensland Reef Water Quality Program and delivered by the Department of Primary Industries (DPI).
