Multi-species cropping directly into pastures or cane trash is a fantastic tool to promote ground cover, water retention, biodiversity, and biological activity, without unnecessary tillage. Funded in collaboration with Sustainable Table and the Queensland Government Department of Agriculture and Fisheries, this specialised planter is available to CQSHS members at an affordable fee per hectare basis.

Our comprehensive guide to cover cropping

Based on 10 years experience of Nuffield Scholar and CQSHS founding member, Simon Mattsson, this multi-species cover cropping guide provides valuable insights into species selection, plant timing, pre-planting prep, post-planting management, different planting methods, and the most likely outcomes from some of the more common species’ mixes.
Access to water samplers for nutrient analysis

CQSHS has KP Water Samplers available for use by members as a cost-effective solution to collecting water run-off for nutrient analysis. Water is then delivered to Reef Catchments for testing by ALS Environmental Laboratory in Mackay.

This is to coincide with upcoming soil health events, as part of our current project which runs until April 2026, and has been funded by the Integrated Engagement and Capacity Building project through the Queensland Government’s Queensland Reef Water Quality Program and delivered by the Department of Primary Industries (DPI).
Membership fees are GST inclusive and per calendar year. A reminder email will be sent to renew your membership at the start of each new year.
