ALTERNATIVES

Tim Scott is an organic beef producer based in Mary Valley, running paddock-to-plate brand K2 Organic Beef and Kandanga Farm Store, a unique hub that connects farmers and consumers through organic produce, agricultural supplies, and community events. Through these avenues, he works to promote chemical-free food production, strengthen local food systems, and support farmers transitioning to regenerative agriculture.

Tim will share his inspirational story, as well as discussing current and emerging chemical-free alternatives for weed management, internal and external parasite control, soil amendments, and cover cropping, with plenty of time for Q&A.

BIOREACTORS

Together we will build a Johnson–Su Bioreactor and all learn how to create this simple composting system firsthand. Made from a ventilated cylinder filled with a mix of organic materials such as wood chips, manure, and green waste, the reactor slowly produces a fungal-rich compost that can improve soil biology, nutrient cycling, structure, and water-holding capacity.

COLLARS

Hear about local experience of Gallagher eShepherd Virtual Fencing, which use GPS to create invisible paddock boundaries, allowing farmers to remotely control where cattle graze, improving grazing management and pasture utilisation without installing physical fences. There will also be a virtual session with a Gallagher representative to explain more and answer any questions you may have (email us ahead of time with your burning questions).

This project has been funded by the Integrated Engagement and Capacity Building project through the Queensland Government’s Queensland Reef Water Quality Program and delivered by the Department of Primary Industries (DPI).
